Nigeria and Niger Republic have signed a memorandum of understanding on joint security operations along the Nigeria-Niger border regions, comprising the states of Sokoto, Zamfara and Katsina.

Nigeria, Niger Republic Sign Security Pact
The agreement was signed when the Nigerian minister of defence, Mansur Dan-Ali visited the Niger Republic to strengthen the existing cooperation between the two countries. He was received by the Nigerian president, Muhammadu Issoufou, who commended the role of Nigeria in the fight against insurgency in the sub-region.
The new memorandum of understanding involves the establishment of a common border monitoring mechanism to prevent the growth of security threats in the region.
Nigeria and Niger are already members of the multi-national joint task force, set up to fight activities of Boko-Haram in the Lake Chad basin.
