Lagos State Orders Schools To Resume September 22

comments
by AIT / 5 years ago / Education

Babatunde Fashola, Governor Lagos state

The Lagos State government has supported the September 22 date fixed by the Federal Government for the resumption of academic activities in all public and private primary and secondary schools in the country.

The state’s Ministry of Information and Strategy, which issued a statement to this effect, stated that although the resumption date was advisory as education is a concurrent matter to be regulated by both the state and the Federal Government, the state considered its decision to support the resumption date justifiable in view of the fact that there was no known carrier of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the state at the moment.

The statement added that the last individual suspected to have been exposed to the virus would be discharged from observation on September 18 if he tests negative to the virus.

It stated further that considering the situation report, it was clear that the risk of infection with EVD in the state had been reduced.

The statement added that health professionals working on the outbreak were also in agreement that there was no reason schools should remain closed beyond September 22.

To this end, therefore, the state government directed all public and private educational institutions in the state to schedule their resumption accordingly.
