Electricity Workers Protest In Abuja

The national union of electricity employers, NUEE, on Thursday crippled activities at the headquarters of the bureau of public enterprising, BPE, in a protest to demand for the payment of their severance benefits since 2013
Deputy president of NUEE, south, Christian Omoneh who led the protesters said over forty thousand members are owed about one billion naira. They pleaded with government to begin the immediate payment as some pensioners have already lost their lives waiting.
However a brief meeting was held between the union and BPE officials resulting in an agreement to resolve all issues before Friday next week
Confirming the agreement, director of electricity, in BPE said it is the desire of government to pay up all outstanding benefits
Government’s privatized of the electricity sector in 2013, leading to the creation of the distribution companies, discos and the generating companies, GENCOS which laid off workers
