ASUU Resumes Talks With FG
ASUU President Professor Biodun Ogunyemi told AIT's Abulu Osemuaghu exclusively that the meeting is scheduled for one o'clock at the instance of the minister of education, Adamu Adamu and the government negotiating team.
ASUU president said the 20 billion naira released by the federal government in September 2018 is not an issue and that 200 billion naira ought to have been released in October 2017 as part of the 2013 MoU at which government agreed to inject 1.3 trillion naira to fund universities at 220 billion naira yearly for five years
ASUU said if government fails to fund public universities the situation on campuses might degenerate worse than the already poor quality teaching and learning obvious in the majority of public primary and secondary schools, where even government officials prefer to patronize private schools
ASUU insists that the 'no work no pay' threats by government cannot be directed at the lecturers as industrial action is legal in Nigerian labour law and international conventions which Nigeria is signatory.
ASUU is hoping that the meeting scheduled for Thursday will be used to deliberate on resolving the issues at stake and not to continue to raise alarm that past administrations made bogous agreements with the university teachers.
