Akwa Ibom House Of Assembly Declares Seats Of Defecting Members Vacant
The seats of five members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, have been declared vacant by the Speaker, Onofiok Luke, at an emergency plenary session on Monday morning.

The members affected are Idongesit Ituen ( Itu), Nse Ntuen (Essien Udim), Victor Udofia (Ikono), Gabriel Toby (Ika/Etim Ekpo) and Oto Obong Ndem.
Earlier last week, an Uyo Federal High Court had ruled that the Speaker had the power to declare a member’s seat vacant after Idongesit Ituen had gone to court after his defection from PDP to APC, in a preemptive move to prevent the Speaker from declaring his seat vacant.
His supporters staged a protest and attempted to invade the house but were rebuffed by security agents.
