Lawan, who is the current Senate leader, told journalists in Abuja that he willingly threw his hat into the race.
The aspirant who does not see the contest as a do-or-die affair promised to work in close consultation with the opposition lawmakers if elected into office.
Lawan is certain that the Senate under his leadership will work for Nigeria.

Lawan is on the sweepstakes for the ninth Senate presidency with two other key aspirants, Senators Danjuma Goje and Ali Ndume.
