ASUU Strike Fallout: Observers debate whether or not Lecturers should be paid

In the last four months, the Nigerian government at different times met the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU officials in a bid to end the lingering strike. After four months holiday, one of the turning issues that needs to be resolved is whether the lecturers should be paid for staying at home.

In a bid to bring a speedy end to the 4-month strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), President Jonathan, on Monday took over the reins of negotiation with the Union. The meeting was said to have started at 2:40pm. A 15-minute recess was taken sometime around 7pm after which the meeting was re-convened. The meeting was said to have continued till early hours of Tuesday morning.
